Walker Bryson, Jr. has driven a whopping one million safe miles as a Central Hauling independent contractor, and we're proud to present him with this award for his achievement.
One million is such a huge number that it's hard to even wrap your mind around how many minutes of driving, how many loads in all kinds of weather, and how many nights Walker has slept in his cab.
Thank you for choosing to drive with us. We can't thank you enough for all the miles you've put into steering the way with Central. Congratulations, Walker!
Congratulations to Jerry Haywood for achieving 1.5 million safe miles driven with Central Hauling! We don't know how many early mornings, long traffic jams, and truck stop coffees that adds up to, but we know how grateful we are for drivers like Jerry who steer the way and make our business possible.
Thank you for every mile you've driven for us, Jerry. We're so happy you've chosen to be a part of the Central and CalArk family!
We're sorry to share the news that one of Central Hauling's most friendly and well-loved contractors has passed away after experiencing a stroke. We've wanted to show our appreciation and respect for him while honoring his family's wishes for privacy during a painful time.
Wayne Gordon had the kind of out-going, talkative, positive personality that drew friends and strangers alike wherever he went. Many of our drivers, contractors, and employees will feel his loss deeply. We're grateful to have had the chance to know him and wish his family comfort and peace while they grieve.
This Friday, CalArk and Central Hauling will be planting a tree here at our Little Rock property to honor what he meant to so many of us. It will serve as a memorial to him and continue to be a place where we show respect to other drivers we may miss as time goes on.
The planting is planned for the day of his funeral because, as he is being laid to rest in one place, we want him to be given life symbolically in another. We'll be livestreaming this so that many of you who might be on the road can still be included in showing our respect as a company and as coworkers. We'll give more details about time and how to watch or attend later tomorrow.
It's hard to lose someone who has touched so many. We offer our condolences to his family and the many others who will miss him. Thank you, Wayne, for sharing part of your life with us!
Funeral services for Wayne Gordon will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 24, 2018 at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, 777 Elm St, Macon, GA 31201. (478) 742-0575 11:00 am Visitation at 11:45 am Celebration of Life services. Funeral services are being handled by Richard R. Robinson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3275 Pio Nono Ave, Macon, GA 31206 (478) 788-1234.
Central Hauling is proud to celebrate one million miles with Dorsey Scott, who has partnered with us as an independent contractor for eight years.
We may not have been in the cab while he did a pre-trip inspection on a snowy day or plotted his way to an unfamiliar location after a long drive, but we know it takes tough men and women to do what our independent contractors do over the course of that many years and miles.
Central Hauling is grateful that Dorsey and his family have chosen to work with us and hope he'll be around for a million miles to come. Congratulations, and thank you for steering the way!
María Perez has achieved an amazing million miles with Central Hauling since choosing to partner with us as an independent contractor in 2011. We're delighted that she has forged a career with us, steering the way and succeeding as a business owner.
Maria says her favorite way to spend time when not driving is with her mom, children, and grandchildren. She also enjoys spending time shopping at Wal-Mart.
Thank you for working with Central Hauling and CalArk! We know we lucked out when Maria chose to spend years and a million miles as part of our family.
Arthur Lang has been working with CalArk/Central Hauling since Nelly first pointed out that it was getting hot in here, and in the 16 years since, he's reached a stunning quarter of a billion safe miles.
A wordsmith who enjoys rap and writing his own music, he often uses his time on the road to craft new rhymes. Even when not hauling freight as a Central Hauling independent contractor, he enjoys getting in his car and travelling. He also loves spending time with his daughter and two grandchildren.
We're so grateful Arthur works with Central to help keep our country's commerce in motion, steering the way with the CalArk family. Congratulations, and thank you for working with us!
Jeff and Linda Hardy started working for CalArk in 2006 and became independent contractors with Central Hauling in 2013. Since then they've managed to drive a mind-blowing three million miles with us.
When not on the road, they live in Mena, Arkansas, and enjoy spending time with their three children, nine grandkids, and great-grandchild. Linda especially enjoys gardening and creating beautiful flower beds.
We're grateful for the years and miles the Hardy family has given us here at Central Hauling. After over a decade in the CalArk family, they're still steering the way to ensure American business thrives. Thank you for working with us!
Sometimes memories from a career you loved are those that stick with you the longest, even when others fade. Fred Armstrong drove for Central Hauling for years, even earning the two-million-mile jacket he still wears while Alzheimer’s makes it harder for him to keep memories alive.
CalArk and Central Hauling employees still remember him well, too, saying he could be rough around the edges while getting to know you but was, as Kathy “Jack” Jackson in our Company Store remembers, “just the sweetest man you’ve ever met.”
When Zuriel Armstrong, Fred’s son, called and left a message with CalArk with what he thought might be “an odd request” for a Central Hauling hat to give his dad for Christmas, he said he “figured that was that.”
But a few minutes later, Jack (whose description as “an enthusiastic lady” surprises none of those who have noticed her friendly nature and kind heart) called back. She remembered Fred and left more than one hat with Tabitha at the front desk for Zuriel to pick up.
Zuriel contacted us via the website to say, “What a great statement it is about your company. It truly warmed my heart to know there are still good, honest, American companies that care about their employees.”
Bobby McElyea, the General Manager for Central Hauling, received the message. He responded with memories of Zuriel and his respect for Fred’s children while they were there for him during his retirement and transition, saying, “We surely miss him. I am glad to hear that he still thinks of us and is keeping his memories alive about his experiences here.”
We could easily say exactly what Zuriel said about Central: it’s heart-warming that there are still good, honest drivers who care enough to work hard for us and their families. We wish Fred and his sons all the best. Thanks for letting us share in your story!
Keith Lawson began working for CalArk in 2011 and then driving his own truck for Central Hauling a few months later. While driving in heavy traffic or bad weather can make for some rough drives, he enjoys exploring different parts of the country. Driving has allowed him to witness spectacular scenery like that in the national parks near Moab, Utah.
About a decade ago he began making YouTube videos to share with other drivers and family, eventually joining a YouTube truckers group to learn and improve. As a result, his channel has interesting visuals, fun intro and outro music, and snappy editing that keeps the pace from dragging.
PaleriderTV, his YouTube channel, posts new videos every day or two that showcase his dry humor and uncomplaining attitude, letting viewers peek into daily life on the road. Making the videos has even become a paying hobby, as he has enough regular viewers to earn a little AdSense revenue.
Hearing about positive experiences from our Central Hauling drivers makes all of us in the CalArk family feel like our business is doing right. Happy viewing to those of you about to take a look, and take care out there, Keith!

Quick note: We love hearing and seeing our drivers in action. Just be sure that if you share work information via YouTube or any other form of social media you follow all applicable laws about device usage while driving. Cousins Armando and Enrique came to the US mainland from Puerto Rico in 1998 to drive as a team for CalArk and now own trucks that contract with Central Hauling, the owner operator company in the CalArk family.
Enrique’s wife, Rhonda, works in our operations division. Armando and Enrique have earned multiple awards with us, including 2 million safety miles and several 100% on-time delivery awards.
Recently the Sanchez family was able to come together for the first time in eleven years to take the photo shown here. With relatives in the military, Arkansas, Puerto Rico, and Georgia, getting everyone together was no easy feat! We’re happy their family is part of ours.
